Itchy ears are so miserable because it’s hard to make the itching stop.
You can get an itchy ear from things like dry skin, a build-up of ear wax, allergies, or some kind of infection.
These home remedies can help make the annoyance stop. Take a look at these seven methods that will leave you itch-free.
If you don’t like the sound of putting things like oil and hydrogen peroxide in your ears, water can sometimes do the trick on its own.
Like normal, warm up some water and put a few drops in your ear when it’s cooled down. Let it sit for a few minutes before removing the excess water.
2.) Olive Oil
Start by heating some olive oil up in the microwave for a few seconds, but again, make sure it isn’t too hot. You can test the temperature by rubbing a bit on the inside of your wrist.
If it feels okay, place a few drops in the inflicted ear. Drain after a few minutes.
3.) Garlic Oil
Believe it or not, garlic is full of allicin, a natural antimicrobial property, and adding garlic to your oil will make the treatment more effective.
Just crush some garlic cloves and cook them in your oil of choice. Let the oil cool when it is finished, and strain out any lumps. Then administer it to your itchy ears like normal.
4.) Coconut Oil
You’ll want to warm up the oil before administering, but make sure it’s not too hot. Something that feels hot to your fingers will probably feel hotter inside your ear.
Then just put a few drops in your ear, let it sit for a few minutes, and let the rest drain out.
5.) Warm Washcloth
Run some warm water over a washcloth and wring it out so it doesn’t drip. Place the washcloth over your ear and keep it there for at least 10 minutes.
6.) Hydrogen Peroxide
The type you’ll want to use is 3% hydrogen peroxide.
Lay on your side and use a medicine dropper to put a few drops into your ear. You’ll probably hear some fizzing, but that is normal. Once the sound stops, tilt your head and let the extra hydrogen peroxide drain out.
7.) Apple Cider Vinegar
If your ear itches because of an infection, this is a good choice to use. Apple cider vinegar changes the pH levels of the ear, making it so things like viruses and bacteria can’t produce.
Warm up equal parts water and apple cider vinegar in a pan. Once it has cooled off, soak a cotton ball in the mixture and leave it in the infected ear for several minutes. You may want to lay on your side so gravity can help.
8.) Press Down On Your Tragus
By pushing down on your tragus repeatedly (so that it’s up against the back of your ear) will help you get immediate relief and it’s also very safe to do.
Closing and reopening your ear canal applies pressure and friction and helps you feel a similar relief—as if you were scratching the inside of the ear canal.
